Computer-Based Examinations
- Maintain a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine and have hospital or surgical center privileges.
- Submit and be approved for 240 orthopaedic Category I CME credits that include a minimum of 40 Self-Assessment Examination (SAE) credits.
- Submit a Case List.
- Apply online and submit Application Fee by December 1. (Late deadline of December15.)
- Receive letters of notification of admission to Examination.
- Pay Examination Fee.
- Receive a Scheduling Permit and schedule Examination.
- Take Examination at Prometric Testing Centers.
- Results posted on your Diplomate Dashboard.
Oral Examination

- Oral Recertification Examination at Palmer House in Chicago in July.
- Exam posted in August on your Diplomate Dashboard.
ABOS Web-Based Longitudinal Assessment (ABOS WLA)
- Maintain a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine and have hospital or surgical center privileges.
- Knowledge Sources are posted in January to choose and study.
- Assessment Window to answer questions is April 15-May 20. Pay assesment fee prior to answering first question.
- Submit and be approved for 240 orthopaedic Category I CME credits that include a minimum of 40 Self-Assessment Examination (SAE) credits.
- Submit a Case List in Year 7, 8, or 9 (Same year as your Application).
- Apply online and submit Application Fee by December 1 of Year 7, 8, or 9. (Late deadline of December 15.)
