The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) provides reasonable examination accommodations to individuals who meet certain requirements. All requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis after the submission of required documentation.
ADA Accommodations
Diplomates who need examination accommodations per the ADA should complete this form if you are taking an Oral Recertification Examination and this form for all other Recertification Examinations. Send the completed form and supporting documents by March 1 to accommodations@abos.org.

ABOS Computer-Based Recertification Examinations are administered at Pearson VUE Professional Test Centers. Upon approval of your accommodations, additional information about examination accommodations will be provided by Pearson VUE; however, please complete the Accommodation Request Form first by March 1 and contact accommodations@abos.org to assist you.
Alternate Date
Diplomates with qualifying life events may apply to participate in the ABOS Oral Recertification Examination on an alternate date in the year that they have been approved. The 2026 Alternate Date ABOS Oral Examination is October 25, 2026. The Examination will be administered in Dallas. Deadlines for uploading the required documents and images for the 12 Selected Cases will remain the same. To submit your request, please complete this form, attach supporting documents, and email all documents to accommodations@abos.org. The deadline to apply for the 2026 Alternate Date Oral Examination is March 1, 2026. All requests for alternate date testing will be reviewed by the ABOS Credentials Committee.
