The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) provides reasonable examination accommodations to individuals who meet certain requirements. All requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis after the submission of required documentation. To request accommodations, please click on the “accommodations” button on your ABOS Dashboard and complete the form when you register for the examination. All accommodations requests must be made by March 1st of the year of your examination, except for the Alternate Date request which must be by March 1st. ADA Accommodations
For candidates with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits that person in one or more major life events, has a record of such impairment or is regarded as having an impairment.

Breastfeeding Candidates
Breastfeeding Candidates who will need a private space to pump may submit this request. The Oral Recertification Examination is conducted over 3 hours and 15 minutes, including the Candidate Briefing. The nursing mother space can be arranged for before and after the Candidate’s Examination.
Alternate Date
For Candidates unable to sit for the Oral Recertification Examination due to life events such as childbirth and pregnancy, medical issues, military deployment, or family tragedy, the ABOS offers an alternate date about 3 months after the initial administration. The Examination is administered in Dallas. Deadlines for uploading the required documents and images for the 12 Selected Cases remain the same. Requests to utilize the alternate date must be made by March 1st. All requests for alternate date testing are reviewed by the ABOS Credentials Committee.
