Accommodations

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) provides reasonable examination accommodations to individuals who meet certain requirements. All requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis after the submission of required documentation.

ADA Accommodations
Those who need examination accommodations per the ADA should complete this form, attach supporting documents, and email all documents by July 1 to accommodations@abos.org.

Breastfeeding Candidates
Breastfeeding Candidates who will need a private space to pump may submit this request by submitting this form by July 1. The Part II Examination is conducted over 3 hours and 15 minutes, including the Candidate Briefing. The nursing mother space can be arranged for before and after the Candidate’s Examination.

Alternate Date
Candidates with qualifying life events may apply to participate in the ABOS Part II Oral Examination on an alternate date in the year that they have been approved to sit. The 2026 Alternate Date ABOS Part II Oral Examination is October 25, 2026. The Examination will be administered in Dallas. Deadlines for uploading the required documents and images for the 12 Selected Cases will remain the same. To submit a request, please complete this form, attach supporting documents, and email all documents to accommodations@abos.org. The deadline to apply for the 2026 Alternate Date ABOS Part II Oral Examination is March 1, 2026. All requests for alternate date testing will be reviewed by the ABOS Credentials Committee.
