ABOS WLA Temporary Extension

ABOS WLA Temporary Extension

ABOS Diplomates with an ABOS Board Certification expiration date of December 31, 2019 who chose to participate in the ABOS Web-Based Longitudinal Assessment (ABOS WLA) in 2019 have had their ABOS Board Certification temporarily extended to December 31, 2020.

This extension will be done yearly and will be done only for those ABOS Diplomates whose ABOS Board Certification expires in the year of the ABOS WLA administration. This temporary extension program will only apply through 2025.

While an ABOS Diplomate’s Board Certificate may temporarily be extended, the permanent 10-year cycle dates will not change. For instance, if a Diplomate with a Board Certification expiration date of December 31, 2019 completes the ABOS WLA program in 2023 after achieving five Quality Years, that Diplomate’s ABOS Certificate will be extended through 2029. The temporary extensions that occur each year in the interim allows the Diplomate the opportunity to participate in the ABOS WLA, but the Diplomate still must earn their CME/SAE based on their current 10-year cycle, i.e., the cycle ending December 31, 2029.
