- If you choose to participate in the ABOS WLA, you must have begun by 2020. If you did not, you must wait until your next 10-year MOC cycle starts.
- You must achieve five consecutive Quality Years. A Quality Year is achieved by correctly answering 24 out of 30 questions. If you choose to continue to participate in the ABOS WLA in your next cycle, you will be required to complete five consecutive Quality Years again, for 10-straight Quality Years total.
- If you earn a Quality Year in 2020, your Board Certification will temporarily be extended through 2021. If you earn a Quality Year in 2021, your Board Certification will temporarily be extended through 2022. If you earn a Quality Year in 2022, your Board Certification will temporarily be extended through 2023. In late December, this will be reflected in the Verification Letter that can be printed from your ABOS Diplomate Dashboard. New Certificates will be printed and mailed after a Diplomate completes the ABOS WLA Pathway by earning five Quality Years and completing all other MOC requirements.
- The temporary extensions of your current Board Certification will not change the end date of your 10-year MOC cycle. The end date of your next 10-year MOC cycle will be 2030.
- If you do not earn a Quality Year at any time, you must then take an ABOS Computer-Based or Oral Recertification Examination.
- You must have submitted your Recertification Application, Application Fee, Case List, and CME/SAE requirements by December 1, 2019.
